About the Sasol Bursaries for 2026
It is important to understand that bursaries are granted for standard degree programs that span a minimum duration, such as a B.Sc. or B.Eng. over four years. Students are required to enroll full-time at a recognized and accredited South African university; for instance, registration at distance-learning institutions like UNISA is not permitted.
Fields of Study Covered
Applications may be submitted for degrees (no diplomas) in one of the following fields of study:
Undergraduate Studies (B.Eng. / B.Sc.) – Please note that this bursary program does not accept Technical Maths/Math’s literacy.

- Civil Engineering
- Data Science – Computer Science
- Data Science – Mathematics
- Data Science – Operations Research
- Data Science – Statistics
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronic Engineering
- Geology (Studies to Hons. level will be required)
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgy (Studies to Hons. level will be required)
- Mining Engineering
Bursaries will not be granted for dual, combined, or hybrid degree programs, such as B.Sc. in Chemistry with Chemical Engineering, B.Eng. in Mechatronics, or B.Sc. in Environmental and Geology. Each student is allowed to submit only one application. If an applicant provides false information during the application process, and this is discovered by Sasol at a later date, the invitation for further selection, the bursary offer, or the bursary itself will be immediately revoked due to potential fraudulent activity, whether intentional or unintentional. It is crucial for students to recognize that any discrepancies in the information provided during the application, bursary interview, or at any subsequent time will render the application or bursary invalid.
Shortlisting for the Bursary Programme
The shortlisting of candidates for the Mainstream Bursary selection process, as well as the identification of recipients, is conducted meticulously, considering our organizational needs and adhering strictly to established selection criteria. Given the limited number of bursaries available, the competition among applicants who meet the minimum requirements is heightened. While we appreciate the academic achievements and other qualities of applicants, those selected for interviews or awarded bursaries have demonstrated greater academic competitiveness and/or better alignment with our business needs. It is important to note that bursary selections occur prior to students receiving their final results for the current academic year, and students should be aware of this timing.
