The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is responsible for disbursement of millions of social support assistants every month. The agency disburses grants such as Older Pension Grant, Foster Care Grant, Child Support Grant, Social Relief of Distress Grants including SRD for Disaster and many more grants.

How many people are receiving Child Support Grant?
According to UCT Children Count website, As at the end of March 2020, a monthly Child Support Grant of R450 was paid to 12,992,678 children aged 0 – 17 years. For 2022/2023 financial year, child support grant and older pension grants together will be paid to over 17.2 million beneficiaries.
About the child support grant
If you are eligible for the grant, you can get the grant to help you raise the child you look after.
Who qualifies for Child Support Grant?
For one to get this grant the following must be met:
You must be the child’s primary caregiver (e.g. parent, grandparent or a child over 16 heading a family). Note: If you are not the child’s parent, you must provide proof that you are the child’s primary caregiver through an affidavit from a police official, a social worker’s report, an affidavit from the biological parent or a letter from the principal of the school attended by the child.
You must be a South African citizen or permanent resident.
Not earning more than R52 800 per year if you are single. If you are married, your combined income should not be above R105 600 per year.
Child Requirements
The child must:
Be under the age of 18 years
Not be cared for in a state institution
Live with the primary caregiver who is not paid to look after the child.
Both you and the child must live in South Africa.
Important to note: You cannot get this grant for more than six children who are not your biological or legally adopted children.
How much beneficiaries get?
You will get R480 a month per child.
How is this grant paid?
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) will pay the grant to you through one of the following methods:
Cash at a specific pay point on a particular day
Electronic deposit into your bank or Postbank account (the bank may charge you for the service)
