Why the SRD Grant
The SRD Grant is one of the social assistance provided by the South African Social Security Agency for South Africans. The grant was established in May 2020 to assist those who were affected by the COVID-19 lockdowns. It has been extended each year and now the current extension ends in 2025.
Why SRD Grant Applications are Declined or Rejected
Here are some of the reasons why R370 grant applications are rejected:
Identity Verification Failed
The common decline reason for this grant is ‘Identity Verification Failed’. This is when Sassa fails to identify the applicant as they process the application.
NSFAS Registered
The second common reason is ‘NSFAS registered’ This means that, the applicant has been found on NSFAS database. That could mean that they are receiving NSFAS bursary. The application has to be rejected since one cannot receive both NSFAS and Sassa SRD grant at the same time.
What to do When Your Grant was Rejected?
If your grant application was rejected and you feel that it was unfairly declined, you may lodge an appeal for reconsideration.
