Short Description/ Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for prompt response to emergency situations with factory premises

Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

Emergency Response

Drive emergency vehicle to incident scene

Isolation of fires and Assessment of situation [ First responder]

Isolation of Valves

Containment of leaking equipment

Search and Rescue affected personnel

Protect un-affected plant equipment

Physical preparedness [Fitness]

Administer first aid

Assume the role of Incident Commander

Fire Fighting [Gas/Hydrocarbon Liquids and Grass fires]

Operating Fire engine

Positioning and connect fire hoses

Operating fire hydrants and foam units

Operating Fire hose and fire equipment

Operate Foam equipment and able to produce firefighting foam

Extinguishing fires

Servicing and maintenance of emergency and Fire

Inspection of fire-fighting equipment [foam units, fire extinguishers, hydrants] Fighting equipment

Maintenance of Fire extinguishers

Re-filling of Fire extinguishers

Inspection and refilling of SCBA

Inspect and maintain all emergency equipment and vehicles.

Firefighting Training

Conduct drills and training in basic fire fighting

Conduct drills and training in basic use of a fire extinguisher

Conduct drills and training in basic inspection and use of SCBA

Participate in Emergency exercises

Safety

Personal safety first

Do all specified PPE

Stand-by rescue duties on critical tasks

Report writing

Reports on call-outs attended

Monthly report for the division/shift

Minimum Qualifications

Grade 12 with Maths

Hazmat Awareness (certified)

Hazmat Operations (certified)

Fire fighter 1 & 2 (accredited)

Level 3 First Aid (Valid) (Basic Ambulance assistant will be to your advantage)

Code EB License (Code EC will be to your advantage)

Pass Internal Physical fitness assessment for fire staff

In addition to a pre-employment medical examination, some positions may require a physical fitness assessment as part of the normal selection criteria.

Experience

2+ relevant years’ of experience
