Gauteng government partnership with MERSETA to train 6 000 solar
technicians
Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi will on Thursday, 4 May 2023 host a media briefing to announce a partnership between the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) and Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Sector Education and Training Authority (merSETA) to train 6 000 young people as solar technicians.
The Premier status on Twitter “We are looking for 6000 young unemployed youth based in GAUTENG to be trained as installers of solar panels. They will earn a monthly stipend during training. Skill the youth to fight loadshedding”
This is in line with the commitment made by the Premier, in his inaugural State of the Province Address delivered on 21 February 2023 where he said: “We will ensure that our young people are trained, skilled and equipped in the energy space.”
Premier Lesufi will be joined by the merSETA CEO, Ms Disa Mpande, and representatives from the South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPIA), a member-led organization involved in the solar PV industry.
