Check SRD Status for August 2023: Sassa is administering the Social Relief of Distress Grant in South Africa as an agency of the Department of Social Development. It also administer all other grants offered by the Department of Social Development.

Millions of people are receiving the SRD Grant on a monthly basis. The grant comes in a form of monetary value of R350 per month for qualifying individuals. For people who are not receiving any other income monthly, R350 can go a long way. But is R350 per month enough to sustain someone per month? Well, that’s a question for another day.

There are some proposals by various civil society organisations to make SRD Grant a permanent grant in a form of Basic Income Grant. The Good Party has proposed that Government can afford to pay R999 per month to those who are not working as Basic Income Grant. Other organisations are pushing that the current amount of R350 be increased to or above R624 per month as R350 is way below the poverty level.

Step 1: Visit the Sassa SRD grant website

Step 2: Scroll down to the ‘South African ID Holders’ and click the ‘click here to proceed’ tab, then, scroll down to ‘Application status’ for your SRD grant

Step 4: Click on ‘Click here to check online’

Step 5: Fill in your ID number and the phone number that you used for your application, then click ‘submit’

Is Your Status Pending for August? What Does that Mean?

A “pending” SRD grant status means that Sassa is still evaluating your grant application.

Does Your Status says ‘Referred’? What Does that Mean?

A “referred” R350 grant status is when your application was randomly selected for internal verification and quality assurance. It may also indicate that the cell phone number used for the R350 grant application was flagged by the South African Fraud Prevention Services.

What to do about a ‘pending’ Status?

There is nothing you have to do about pending status except for checking your application status back later. Applicants for the SRD grant should check their application status regularly to stay updated on about their application progress.

What if my R350 Status says ‘declined’?

If your SRD grant status says declined, you have to make an appeal if you think your application was rejected unfairly. This should be done on a monthly basis as Sassa evaluates applications on a monthly basis. Also note that you must lodge an appeal within 90 days of the rejection.
