Before we explain that, let us talk about why SRD Grant applications are rejected or declined.

Why SRD Grant Applications are Declined?
There are several reasons why Sassa SRD applications are declined including not meeting the criteria set out in the rules for the SRD grant. We list more reasons why R350 grant applications are declined or rejected and the reasons are as follows:
- Not Meeting the Criteria See the application process here
- Every person applying for the R350 grant must meet certain criteria including:
- Not receiving NSFAS funding
- Not staying in government subsidised facilities
- Not receiving other social grant on behalf on yourself.
- You must be unemployed
- Not receiving any income more than R624 per month
Income
Income in relation to the SRD R350 grant means, any source of income as defined in regulation 19 of the Social Assistance Regulations, 2008 and includes any form of donation or other financial support or financial assistance received by the applicant of not more than R350 as per the food poverty level threshold. However, the poverty level has increased to R624, and as a result, the threshold for the R350 grant has been increased to R624.
What happens if you are declined?
You have the right to apply for reconsideration or appeal should if you are in disagreement with the declined outcome. The client can apply for reconsideration via the SRD Website at this link https://srd.sassa.gov.za/reconsideration should the client wish to dispute the outcome.
Since this grant is validated monthly, the request for reconsideration must be submitted for each month that the application is declined, even if the reason for the decline and the reason for disputing this decision is the same each month.
What does Means Income Source Identified
Get more clarity on what does it mean when Sassa says alternative income source identified.
If you see alternative income sourceĀ found on your SRD applications it means that Sassa has identified that you have other income you are receiving on monthly basis. Sassa do an income check on your bank account and if they find that there are some income you are receiving which is more than R624 monthly, it means that you may not be eligible to receive R350 SRD Grant since you are receiving other monies which is more than the required threshold of R624.

This is the same as ‘Alternative Income Source Identified‘. These are some of the reasons why SRD Grant applications are declined.
What to do if you find Alternative Income Source Identified
If you believe that you still qualify for an SRD Grant and you were declined unfairly, you may lodge an appeal with an independent appeal tribunal. See info above for link to lodge an appeal.
