Social Development is responsible for social assistance in the Republic of South Africa. Through its agency (SASSA) they disburse social assistance in a form of social grants to the needy South Africans and qualifying asylum seekers withing the borders of the country. Almost half of the South African population receives some form of social assistance from the South African Government.
One on the grant distributed by SASSA is the Children Grant, commonly known as Child Support Grant. It is disbursed on a monthly basis to the caregivers of qualifying children under the age of 18. Currently the Child Grant amount is R530 per month per child.
