About the Learnership
The purpose of this learnership is to develop and qualify successful candidates as artisans in critical engineering disciplines within the mining sector. Learners will receive structured workplace training and theoretical learning aligned to their chosen trade.
Available Trades
Candidates may apply for one of the following trades:
• Electrician
• Fitter
• Instrument Mechanician
• Rigger
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Grade 12 with Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy) and Science, minimum symbol E (40%), plus two N2 trade-related subjects, or a minimum N2 with four relevant trade-related subjects
• Trade theory subjects relevant to the trade applied for
• Subjects with F symbols will not be accepted
• Willingness to undergo psychometric assessments
• Ability to work shifts, standby and call-outs when required
• Ability to work under pressure, be innovative and self-motivated
• Ability to identify faults independently
• In possession of, or able to obtain, a valid Certificate of Fitness
Trade Theory Requirements
Electrician: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Industrial Electronics, Electrical Trade Theory
Fitter: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Engineering Drawing, Fitting and Machining Theory
Instrument Mechanician: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Industrial Electronics, Instrument Trade Theory
Rigger: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Engineering Drawing, Mechanotechnology
Advantageous Criteria
• Previous experience in the mining sector
• A valid K53 driver’s licence
Important Information
Applicants must submit certified copies of their qualifications, ID document, driver’s licence and proof of residence, certified within the last three months. Applicants must clearly indicate the trade they are applying for.
Please note that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews. Preference will be given to applicants from the New Vaal Colliery host communities, and proof of residence must be included with the application.
