The Department of Social Development issued a statement on Friday 22 April 2022 informing the public about SRD reapplication and said that those who need assistance for the SRD R350 Grant will have to reapply. The application channels were inactive in the previous few days but now the SRD website is active for applications.
The Department said “Given that the National State of Disaster was lifted in April, the Department of Social Development has endeavored to develop the regulatory framework for the payment of the COVID-19 SRD grant within the Social Assistance legislation.”
The Department put out regulations for public comment in February 2022 and has now concluded the process.

The Department continued and said “Given that the Covid-19 SRD will now be provided for under a new legislative framework, and that additional qualifying and assessment criteria will be added, those in need of assistance will have to apply for the Covid-19 SRD, or reapply if they were previously in receipt of this grant. Fortunately, the entire application system remains a purely digital process, thereby enabling quick access and turnaround times.”
Application Reopening Date
Social Development said that the application system will be opened at 12am on Saturday 23 April 2022. We checked the SRD Website in the afternoon of the 23rd of April 2022 and found that the application tabs were active. The application tabs were deactivated days before 23 April and now they are active again. This means that, applicants can now send their applications to Sassa.
Application Channels
The statement further indicated that “Applications can be lodged either on the SASSA website at https://srd.sassa.gov.za. Further communication will be issued as more application channels are opened.”
Applications will be considered for each month where the application is done. “All applicants are reminded that they will be considered for the Covid-19 SRD from the month in which the application is lodged and this will be validated every month. This means that all applications lodged in April will be considered as from April 2022.”
Media briefing
They concluded by saying “The Minister of Social Development will hold a media briefing in the coming days to provide further details on the implementation of the Covid-19 SRD grant.”
How to Apply or Reapply for SRD R350 Grant?
At the moment, there is only one application channel which is the SRD website. To apply go to https://srd.sassa.gov.za and follow the instructions.

- Scroll down to a section marked ‘How do I confirm that I still qualify for, and need this SRD Grant?’
- Click on the yellow bar marked ‘Click here to confirm you existing application’
- Enter your mobile number
- Submit for one time pin
- Submit application

What happens when you have followed the directions to resubmit for the SRD, enter your mobile number, and the response comes up as “failed”. However, when looking at your status, it tells you waiting for a re-application. Some investigative work for you to dig a little deeper into this issue. I am not the only one that has this problem. I have tried on numerous occasions to submit my re application for the SRD and it keeps saying failed I have been trying from the 24th of April 2022 and I have tried this morning as well the 25th April 2022 and it keeps still saying failed and I was collecting the SRD previously and now after re applying it’s difficult now as the system is not submitting the form and my information is all filled in correctly please advise as to what can be done because if my re application do not go through in the Month of April I can not collect it and I will be left with collecting the SRD fir the month of April now and will be left with nothing please advise how could this be resolved or is there any other possible easier way it could be submitted during this week.

People need to understand why Sassa SRD requires spouse details and parents ID number
The question ask for parents ID as I do not know my parents ID number what do I fill in as I cannot submit without it.
They said the applications will be opened on Saturday and yet after several attempts at doing the since 12am yesterday until now 5:36am Sunday, it’s the same old delay tactic since it says failed continuously.
Because the tab is open doesn’t necessarily mean the application will go through, they even said so themselves that they aren’t accepting new applications. So even if you can still apply or reapply it won’t go through as yet, till maybe the following month and blame it on their system once again.
Remember if you apply in May your only getting paid for that month in which you applied for. And “skipping” this month would mean they don’t have to pay billions that are required to sustain such a grant every month with its 10 million or so people that rely on it.
They could have communicated with people explain the new legislative framework changes, and so on instead they leave people hanging expecting something which now they have to go through that whole process of applying or reapply unsuccessfully, lagging website, high traffic, and long verification waiting since there’s no particular dates that come with this grant due to this monthly validation so everything is happening at their pace at a snails pace.
We all know this is a lot, but they’ve had some time now to make it better, but still like I’ve been checking my status the whole month only to find out that nope must reapply, and wait yet again.
It’s honestly frustrating even more so when they say they care, and their ridiculous slogan.
Don’t want to make it seem. like this srd is unappreciated or anything but across the board find where they actually do what they say they gonna do with all the other grants with dates and so on.
And this Srd one is like the black sheep of the family, as long as the others are sorted, then whatever.
The part of not knowing is what’s getting to people due to lack of communication.
