SASSA Child Grant Payment Dates for March 2022

Sassa has already started disbursing social grants for the month of March 2022. They started with the older persons’ grant on the 3rd of March, followed by the disability grant on the 4th of March. So, when is the child grant payment dates for March? Read further below to know more about child support grant and payment dates for March 2022.

Why these social grants?

Sassa says “Social grants are in place to help improve standards of living in society and are given to people who are vulnerable to poverty and in need of state support. These generally include older people, people with disabilities, and people with young children.”

What is child support grant?

This is a social grant aimed at supporting children from birth to the age of 18 in South Africa. The parent or guardian may apply for this grant and be the recipient of the grant.

Who qualifies for child support grant?

The following are the qualifying criteria to apply for child support grant in South Africa:

  • The primary care giver must be a South African citizen, permanent resident or refugee.
  • Both the applicant and the child must reside in South Africa.
  • The applicant must be the primary care giver of the child/ children concerned.
  • The child/children must been born after 31 December 1993.
  • The applicant and spouse must meet the requirements of the means test.
  • Child can not apply for more than six non biological children.
  • Child cannot be cared for in state institution.

What is extended child support grant?

In the recent budget speech by the minister of finance, there was an introduction of extended child support grant. This is a grant meant to support more than one orphan as opposed to foster care grant. The grant is still in discussion and will be formally introduced later.

Child support grant payment dates for March 2022

As the older person’s grant was paid on the 3rd of March and disability grant paid on the 4th of March, other grants are supposed to be paid on the 7th of March 2022. This include child support grant.
