SASSA Accomplishments
SASSA was established under the Social Assistance Act of 2004 and the South African Social Security Agency Act of 2004. It is a public entity according to the Schedule 3A of the Public Finance Management Act.
SASSA has delivered social grants to almost 50% of the South African population in 2022 and still continues to add value to the lives of South Africans. Also, during the extreme crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic, SASSA established a Special COVID-19 grant (SRD) for the unemployed as they were affected by the pandemic. The grant started to provide R350 per person and now the amout is R370 per qualifying person per month.
