Meeting the criteria

For you to be approved for the SRD Grant, you have to meet certain criteria that Sassa has outlined. Find all the details on the SRD website before making your application.

Income

Income in relation to the SRD R350 grant means, any source of income as defined in regulation 19 of the Social Assistance Regulations, 2008 and includes any form of donation or other financial support or financial assistance received by the applicant of not more than R350 as per the food poverty line threshold.

What happens if you are declined?

The client has the right to apply for reconsideration or appeal should they be in disagreement with the declined outcome. The client can apply for reconsideration via the SRD Website at this link https://srd.sassa.gov.za/reconsideration   should the client wish to dispute the outcome.

Since this grant is validated monthly, the request for reconsideration must be submitted for each month that the application is declined, even if the reason for the decline and the reason for disputing this decision is the same each month.

Reasons for SRD Grant Decline

Reason for declineWhat it means
Alternative income source identifiedThe applicant has been employed and is indicated as contributing towards income tax

DebtorThe client was paid R350 once or more where the client did not qualify. The error was picked and the money is withheld to correct the error. Payments will resume if the client still qualifies, once all the outstanding R350s recovered.

What can I do when my application is declined?

The client can apply for reconsideration via the SRD Website at this link https://srd.sassa.gov.za/reconsideration   should the client wish to dispute the outcome. You can appeal every month as applications are reviewed on a monthly basis. Each rejection is for that particular month, you may still appeal for the upcoming month if declined again.

I worked for 3 days then i got fired, the system said that i am registered for uif in 2020 i went to labour department fill in the form then they said they cant give me uif for 3 days. The same this year march i got declined again. I sold my playstation the money was paid into my account now srd says there was a source of income. Since 2020 they dont check if and when was there an income an how they dont know. They just decline us. Why dont they pay all our unclaimed funds.

      26/06/2022 at 10:25 am

Hi. Im facing the exact same problem as you and if you check very well , most has been declined due to alternative income. If they are looking at the little that’s been deposited in our accounts , it’s so wrong because it maybe money we borrow. Also to appeal this is not easy, we have to wait very long before we really get a reply. It’s so unfair. I hope and pray we get what is due to us.

The goverment gives the grant to poorer then poor people, but make ot so difficult for these people to get the grant. I did alot of applications for people staying in the street, they cant afford a phone. Now that they must collect by stores its aproblem they want the person to which the phone number belongs to. I dont even know so e of the people just did them a favour so that they can also apply. 2nd I know of a girl 18years old who always received child grant, but she is doing her matric now and just because she is 18 she doesnt get child grant, she did get the R350 last year but now with the new applications she is declined. Her granny used to looked after her but she passed away, and her mom do get grant for thebone daughter who stays by her aunt and she gets the grant for transport to school. The mom dont work she only recieives R350, so how will this child finish her matric

I was declined because i receive money for my 9 months child from her dad to add on the child grant R480 that I’m receiving since well things are too expensive, I’m currently not working and from that money I also have to buy cosmetics so I was managing to buy my cosmetic with the R350, so since well sassa declined me i don’t know what to do anymore.

I have been retrenchment with the lockdown I did not ask for this to happen I have worked 23 years for a College. My daughter now gives me money for my bond and insurance policies. They can get a statement drop the bank and see that I don’t have any money left when debit orders gets deducted from that R1000.So how must I live no 3xtra money to buy food.Having worked and paid Taxes to this government this is how honest citizens get treated in this country like animals .

The honest people get nowhere inbthis country if I could find a job I will gladly work I am not lazy to work .
