Programme Overview for SAA Learnership 2026
The SAA Technical Apprenticeship and Learnership Programme is based in Kempton Park, Gauteng and offers 45 training opportunities. Successful candidates will receive both theoretical and practical training in approved aviation trades, aligned with industry and regulatory standards.
The programme is designed to develop highly skilled artisans who can contribute to aircraft maintenance and related technical fields within the aviation sector.
Trades Offered
Applicants may select two trades in order of preference from the following options:
- Aircraft Welding – Welding and repairing aircraft and engine components, plasma spraying, heat treatment, and manufacturing parts and tooling.
- Aircraft Spray Painting – Corrosion prevention, repairing paint coatings, applying protective coatings, and painting aircraft interiors and exteriors.
- Aircraft Trimming – Manufacturing, repairing, inspecting and maintaining aircraft interiors and survival equipment.
- Aircraft Composite Structures – Manufacturing, repairing, inspecting and maintaining aircraft composite components.
Minimum Education Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following educational criteria:
Option 1: Grade 12 (Matric)
- Pure Mathematics – minimum 50% or Level 4
- Physical Science – minimum 50% or Level 4
- English (symbol required)
OR
Option 2: N3 Certificate
- Mathematics – minimum 50% pass
- Engineering Science – minimum 50% pass
Knowledge and Skills
Successful applicants should demonstrate:
- Ability to read and write in English
- Basic understanding of technical or mechanical concepts
- Ability to follow instructions accurately
- Good communication skills

- Team players who work well with others
- Detail-oriented and safety-conscious
- Willing to learn and adapt in a technical environment

Selection Process and Important Dates
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. The selection process includes interviews, psychometric assessments, medical examinations, security clearance and background checks. All assessments and interviews will take place in Gauteng.
