Sassa Grant Payments Schedule for 2022

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has released a schedule for social grants payment dates for the rest of 2022 and few months of 2023. The schedule followed their announcement that from April onward, social grant will be disbursed from every second day of the month. These apply to days that fall within weekdays. If the second day of the month falls on weekends or public holiday, the next working day will be used for grant disbursements.

When will Payments be Made Monthly?

It is worth to note that Older Pension Grant is always paid first, and then followed by the Disability Grant and other grants including the Child Support Grant paid last.

Beneficiary Reaction

But some beneficiaries have not welcomed this news well; they said the grants are supposed to be paid before month end so that they are able to cover monthly expenses such as water and electricity bills. When they pay bills on a new month, penalties are attached.

Commenting on CareerPage.co.za’s Post about Social Grants Increases, the visitor said “Please can the payment date be the last day of every month for the next month’s Pension. My reasons being: The electricity, water, accounts need to be paid by the last day of every month to the Msunduzi Municipality in Pietermaritzburg. If not paid on time, electricity is being disconnected and reconnection fees need to be paid. Monthly, debit orders for funeral policy needs to be paid on the 1st of every month. Other commitments also need payment on the 1st of every month.”

She continues “I do understand that the payment before COVID 2 years ago was on the 1st day of every month. Please explain why was the payment date changed, It has really inconvenienced us and prejudiced us as the Old Age Pensioners. We have served our country well whilst we were in the work environment, we paid our taxes.”

The comment continues “This is a humble plea and request to propose this to the government of governance with regards to my humble request. I speak for the majority of Pensioners.

My plea would be the grants should be paid on the last day of the month. Our funeral policies deduct on the 1st day of the month. Late payments might cause problems should one die and the premium was not up to date.

Take the payments back to where it was on the 1st of each month for old adge pension than others follow 2nd 3rd and please leave it like that cause the people struggle if payments are later in the month.

So for the past few months this is what’s happening to me with sassa. When it comes to the last pay date for my last 3 digits of my ID it still says pending it stays on pending till the new month then because they have missed the pay date cut off time they automatically decline and say alternative income source.

Older persons pension should be paid on the last day of the month irrespective of whether the last day is on a weekend or holiday. The present system is very inconvenient.

I totally agree about the inconvenience of the Sassa payment dates been so late after the end of the month. You lose out on a lot i.e. as the visitor says things need to be paid by month end. Grocery specials you miss out on plus many other things etc

My son has special needs, his grant is never paid on the disability day, only on the day for the children. By that day I have run out of his expensive milk as well as his vitamins. It is a struggle every month, not to mention his costs are over double what the grant pays a month.

Going through the sassa increases..an increase on 350 grant what about the children’s grant.?it’s absolutely sad that children grants only receive R20 increase. The cost of nappies and food is increasing so fast yet there’s no one that can speak on behalf of this matter. What can u buy with R20 today. Yet there’s billions being donated to SA due to the recent floods that took place. ABSOLUTELY dissapointing. What about the kids that don’t have homes now n food to eat further more that grant is the last to be received how sad if a baby as no milk n as to wait for the 6th or 7th. It’s totally ridiculous

First they declined then the approved just to get paid up until end March 2022. What is going on.. from January I have received R350 on the 14 or 15 of every month. No for April there is nothing why why why ???????!!!!!!!!!!!??

Why don’t you make the dates like before…1st 2nd and 3rd of each month? Bills needs to be paid people…there are lots of people that depend on these monies to pay debt, etc…

    Sassa 350 grant.
Many people cannot check their status or make an appeal if the application has been declined as such, loosing out on the R350 grant, yet unemployed. This is due to the cell phone used to apply is lost or stolen or they changed their contacts for different reasons. We are told by SASSA that there is no turn arounder time for contacts to be changed and there is an expiry date for appeals to be made. Can SASSA consider putting an option on the SASSA wbeside where a person can change their contacts which can also be verified before, just like updating of banking details and name and surnames?

  22. Ansie Visser says:

Haven’t even received the R350 Grant for April

Prior to covid, older persons grant was paid on the 1st day of each month irrespective of which day it falls. Payment has now moved to 3rd of the month. If this day is a public holiday or weekend then the payment is further delayed. Payment should revert to 1st of each month irrespective of which day it falls. What’s the big deal?

I agree with you,we pay the school transport with this money and the drivers hate this 7th thing it is inconveniencing them in terms of budgeting. You find your child embarrassed because of the drivers comments, that could lead to low self esteem issues,In most times we end up going to loan sharks which puts us in depth because the interest makes it hard to afford the full payment.Must a child be reminded of her households economic status every month amongst other kids?.

With the serious high unemployment rate we are facing in this country, many households depend on child support grant for everything.Theres no difference between the 5th and 7th,it is just late.I mean look at me,I graduated in 2014 and I am still unemployed,my mother sold all the cattle that our father left, for my education, she died without tasting the fruits of such big sacrifice.I’m still poverty stricken and because of my age,I can no longer work because I’m over 35,jobs are given to those who are 35 and less,I was once that age but they never employed me,not to mention applying and to never receive a call inviting me to an interview,I have changed the CV formats for umpteen times just in case I am not getting employed because of my CV.The same SASSA could employ me with my Bachelor of Social Science but because I’m not related to them they won’t employ me. I cannot break this generational plight,it will continue to my next generations .We are often told to vuk’uzenzele,NGANTONI?These business startup grants are also not accessible to us.Now, child support grant, the small thing that keeps us,is put under the stone, from the 3rd to the 7th and now to the 5th.What is so difficult in putting the grants back to their initial dates or 1st for old people and 3rd for other grants?
How would they feel if their salaries were to be shifted to the 5th all of a sudden? But then again, kuya ngokuthi ungubani ..imagine me ,a degree holder ,driving license with PDP and computer literate,a mother of 3 struggling to settle a grade 12 job ,that should tell ukuba in South Africa the law of the jungle prevail.
Dear honourable Minister, may I please have President Ramaphosa’s personal contact number? On a serious note , I have an idea of how we can reduce this high employment rate drastically,or he can reach me. But you guys must employ me(on merit) if you will wish to employ my idea .Please minister this is not a joke.

pls bring back the 1st as payment for older persons…second be child grant support and that will be fair and the rest will follow.Dr

      20/04/2022 at 10:21 pm

It is most inconvenient because companies like foschini charges you interest for late payments as does others

    4. Julliet Shongwe says:

Yes I’m very happy about the dates of May payment… Thanks

I also stand with your motion, people in parliament only think about what’s best for them not for the people. Old age grant being payed on the 1st and irrespective that the day is on weekend or holiday was working well for old people, how is the 1st disturbing their whatever in the department? What happend to end up changing from the 1st to the 5th, from the 5th to the 3rd?

    3. Patrick says:
      20/04/2022 at 4:07 pm

I personally agree with all of you please change the payout dates

  25. Ngwato says:
    19/04/2022 at 1:10 pm

This is highly inconveniencing us. There is just no employment in south Africa across the spectrum. These monies are assisting us as job seekers. We don’t know we’re to cry to for assistance. Traveling in search for jobs make us take loans to no mashomisa who in returns charges interests. We are in dire and more worse situation when the social grants are paid late. The purpose is not as underestimated as the government thinks. As little as it, please make payment dates to be at the earliest date.
